MFM is currently hiring a new full-time position and it’s your last chance to apply! The Northern Ontario Music & Film Awards Conference Coordinator will assist the Director of Operations and the Director of Programming with the implementation of all 2011 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards Conference related programming and activities. They will undertake the development and planning of the NOMFA Conference throughout the year, which will include a timeline, breakdown of responsibilities, and detailed outline of all phases of the program. They will also be responsible for overseeing any temporary support staff in the months leading up to the event. In order to be eligible, you must be a Northern Ontario secondary school graduate 29 years of age or under who recently graduated from an accredited college or university. Graduates from a high school outside of Northern Ontario who have resided in the North for at least one year are also eligible. Mature graduates may be considered. Don’t forget that the submission period for the 2011 Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards is now open and there’s only a little more than a month left to submit! Artists may nominate and submit themselves or be nominated by someone else. The fees are $10 per submission for MFM members and $29 per submission for non-members HST included. All submissions must be received no later than 5 p.m. on October 15, 2010. The Music Award categories for 2011 are Best Album by a Solo Artist, Best Album by a Duo or Group, Best Songwriter, Best Engineer, and Best Vocal Performance on a Recording. The Film Award categories for 2011 are Best Film, Best Director, Best Film Editor, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay. To be eligible, submissions must have been released during the Eligibility Period from January 1, 2009 to October 15, 2010 inclusively. The award submissions are juried each year by prominent individuals in the Canadian music and film industries. There will be three nominees selected for each category. The winners will be announced during the Awards Ceremony to be held in Sudbury on Saturday, April 30th, 2011. The Near North Mobile Lab is proud to present the first annual Doc North Film Festival held in North Bay, Ontario April 15th through the 16th, 2011. They are now accepting submissions for this event. Doc North is a two-day annual documentary film festival that will take place on April 15th and 16th of 2011 in North Bay. It will showcase documentary works from established filmmakers across Canada and expose Northern audiences to the art of visual storytelling in its truest form. A special feature of the festival will be Speed Doc, which will screen short documentaries made by participants involved in the touring workshop festival component of the project that will visit several communities in Northern Ontario. They are asking all Canadian filmmakers (both amateur and professional) to please submit your work. They will be screening winners in both categories as well as awarding prizes to those who qualify. The Real Life Film Festival is looking for submissions. Filmmakers worldwide are invited to submit films to the REAL LIFE Film Festival du cinéma C’EST LA VIE (RLFF) for 2011 Official Selection Consideration until October 1st.
